Get ready for some incredible, homegrown Colorado tunes this weekend, LIVE and FREE in the South Main Town Square (click here for a map) featuring Denver’s talented Oakhurst on Saturday 9/1 around 5:30 pm and the memorable Musketeer Gripweed of Fort Collins on Sunday 9/2 at 6 pm. Local talent Rob Readmond opens for Gripweed on 9/2 from 4-6pm. Last summer the park was packed with fun-loving locals and visitors, chilling in lawn chairs or stomping their feet in the grass. This year promises to continue the same tradition. And of course there will be local libations for those looking to party.
Now we’ve been callin’ this a bluegrass event, and there will definitely be some of that. But let’s delve a little deeper into the knee-slapping, foot-stomping good time in store for Labor Day weekend 2012 in South Main, Buena Vista, Colorado:
While Oakhurst has definite bluegrass roots, their recent work “takes a noticeable turn from the bluegrass tendencies that characterized the band’s previous efforts, to a more genre-bending Americana and Bluesey reverberation.” Listen and watch their promo compilation below:
“Equal parts roots rock, Delta blues, and performance art, a Musketeer Gripweed performance transports audiences to a world long past – one crisscrossed with dusty country roads and populated by highway bandits, snake-oil salesmen, and charlatans… This experience is centered on front man Jason Downing, who transforms on stage into the charismatic Reverend Monkey-Paw Patterson. A wild-eyed pioneer preacher armed with gasoline, straight razors, and hellfire, Rev. Patterson leads shows with all the energy and hunger of a prairie fire.”
And indeed after watching some videos online of this act, there’s no doubt that they’re going to bring the party! Check ‘em out:
