We are excited to announce that on July 2nd and 3rd, the the South Main HOA will host in the Town Square Pickin’ n Paddlin’ in the Park, 2 nights of bluegrass music to benefit the local nonprofit Chaffee Housing Trust and the South Main Arts Trust! This new event grew from South Main residents’ desire to give to the community by bringing free entertainment while supporting important organizations.
Two nights of music from 6-9pm will include Whitewater Ramble on Saturday, July 2nd and Oakhurst on Sunday, July 3rd. Admission is free. Beer, wine, soda and food sales will help raise funds for these two local charities. Many thanks to the motivated South Main residents making this weekend of celebration a reality! Volunteers interested in lending a hand at the event should contact Joni Douty at South Main, (719) 395-4714.
More About the Music:
Oakhurst is a Denver-based international act with deep Appalachian roots and original songs that fuse traditional bluegrass with indie-rock and a citybilly attitude. The band’s sound is more rustic and rocking, and less jazzy and jammed, than the typical hybrid bluegrass found in the Rocky Mountain region. Oakhurst’s unpretentious, go-for-it interpretation of Bluegrass and its road hardened sound has taken them far beyond the boundaries of Colorado. The Quintet has played everything from major festivals to City sponsored events… from floating festivals in the Caribbean to private parties on mountain tops… from bluegrass festivals in the Appalachians to Chateaus in the Champagne region of France.
Whitewater Ramble recently released All Night Drive, featuring 12 genre-jumping original tracks complimented by a who’s who of guest artists that showcases this formula. Produced by Tim Carbone of Railroad Earth fresh off projects with Greensky Bluegrass and Great American Taxi, the album leverages 6 years of touring, writing and arranging the very best of WWR’s original pieces. Guest artists include Steve Molitz of Particle/Phil&Friends, Josh Clark of Tea Leaf Green, Erik Yates from Hot Buttered Rum, Grant Gordy of the David Grisman Quintet and Pete Wall on Saxophones.
